Blood Night at the NYC Horror Film Festival

The NYC Horror Film Festival is a week long event that was established in 2001 to recognize achievement in the horror genre. Generally, somewhere between 50-60 films compete for awards in nine different categories. A lifetime achievement award is also presented each year. William Lustiq will receive the award this year, and his classic film, Maniac, will be screened.

This year’s festival kicks off tomorrow at 8pm with a party at BLVD, located on Bowery at Spring St. Just pay $10 at the door, and enjoy five bands, eleven films and an hour of free beer. Filmmakers will be in attendance!

Blood Night will be screened at the festival on Sunday, November 22 at 8 pm. The screening will take place at Tribeca Cinemas, and will be followed by five short films. Tickets can be purchased for $16. We hope to see you there!

Kristen Hendricks Named $10,000 Winner in Blood Night Contest

Kristen Hendricks of Milltown, NJ was named the grand prize winner of the Blood Night Hunt, and presented with a check for $10,000. The contest, which took place between June and September, asked fans to find a secret movie clip hidden on the Internet by navigating through eight ‘clue’ webpages and collecting pieces of the puzzle. Congratulations to Kristen!

Beware: Mary Hatchet Pays a Visit to College Campuses

We know college students love a good scare. So, Chaos² sent Mary Hatchet to college, as part of a 3D social media marketing experiment leading up to the release of Blood Night. The founders of Chaos², Mike Seiman and Carlton Hickman, are no stranger to viral marketing, as they are also CEO and CTO, respectively, of online ad network, CPX Interactive.

A couple of weeks ago, Mary infiltrated the campus of the Ohio State University, appearing in classes, roaming the quad, and showing up at local bars. Across the campus, the words “Blood Night,” and the web address www.bloodnightmovie.com were stenciled in white, with fake blood splatters, much like on the ones on Mary’s white hospital gown.

The goals behind the strategy, to create buzz among the more than 60,000 students at OSU, and attract the attention of the media were both completed successfully. Jamie Schutz, VP of Marketing & Distribution for Chaos², explained the motivation for bringing Mary to college campuses:

“Most horror films stick to the template of a male antagonist. Blood Night strays from this convention and boldly casts a woman in that role. She’s unbelievably scary and undeniably committed to revenge. We decided to introduce Mary to audiences around the country prior to the film’s release. Word spreads fast on college campuses, so our hope was that tales of Mary Hatchet’s appearance would pass from student to student, just like the urban legend has been passed around for decades,” Schutz explained.

Mary also made an appearance at last night’s exclusive NYC press screening, and will be at Thursday’s one night only fan screening on Long Island. You might want to keep an eye out for her, because where Mary Hatchet seeks her revenge next is anybody’s guess.
